First of all, we build our furniture using 21st century construction techniques.

Jonti-Craft has always been committed to employing the highest quality construction techniques available. Historically, that has been our popular dado construction. Now, after years of research, we have discovered and are delighted to introduce our new dowel pinning construction technique, thus launching a new generation of Jonti-Craft quality products.

How is our furniture enhanced by our use of these new-generation construction techniques?

*   The thickness of the panels is left intact where most of the stress occurs, dramatically increasing the already noteworthy strength of our furniture. (Test results suggest increases by at least 30%.).
*  Product lifetime is extended by 50% to over 100% or more
*  Increased uniformity in appearance and dimension
*  Exposed fasteners are minimal
*  Stability is maximized by incorporating 15" deep units in all storage and kitchen products

All this while continuing to provide our trademark safety and durability features, including our rounded KYDZSafe corners, our unbeatable KYDZHinges, and our KYDZStrong recessed backs which enhance the strength, durability and appearance of our products.

Secondly, Jonti-Craft products are loaded with KYDZSafe features.

Our popular KYDZHinges - full length piano hinges attached with a minimum of nine screws each - are the strongest and safest hinges available. They feature a 270 degree pivot, making it difficult to separate them from the unit. Ultimately, this minimizes the chance of pinching little fingers. Jonti-Craft's sturdy kick plates add to the base strength and safety of the unit. Our trademark rounded KYDZSafe edges and corners provide maximum safety for children in busy classrooms and daycare centers.

Third, our remarkable KYDZTuff finish is both gym floor-strong and environmentally friendly.

Our new ultra-violet acrylic urethane KYDZTuff finish is unique in the market. This remarkable smooth finish, used on all surfaces of our furniture, is as strong and durable as the coating used in gymnasium floors, refuses to yellow, is stain resistant and masks fingerprints. On top of all that, it is both non-toxic and lead-free, making it far safer and friendlier for the environment than any other finish available today. In Keeping with our long-held commitment to the environment, we recycle all our finishing by-products.

Plus, we build with KYDZStrong materials.

Jonti-Craft products are built from the strongest hardwoods available. All units are constructed of eleven ply 5/8" Baltic Birch plywood. Items requiring solid wood are constructed of Northern Hard Maple which is stronger than oak. Plus, our products feature 3/16" heat treated tempered hardboard and pegboard, making them moisture, chip and crack resistant. Caster brackets are installed in all mobile units, adding traingular strength to the corners where the greatest stress occurs. All stationary units with kick plates are fitted with corner brackets adding triangular strength.

GREENGUARD
All Jonti-Craft products are now GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality certified and GREENGUARD Children & Schools certified. The GREENGUARD Children & Schools maximum levels of VOCs are half that of the GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality maximum levels, requiring products to meet even more strict emissions limits of VOCs, formaldehyde, phthalates, and fine respirable particles. The Children & Schools Certification was designed to take into account the unique sensitivities of children. This means that when you buy products from Jonti-Craft, you know you contributing to healthier indoor air quality.

The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) is a third-party organization that certifies products for low chemical emissions. GREENGUARD standards are among the most stringent product emissions standards in the world. Many products that you use everyday can give off harmful VOCs (volatile organic compounds.) These chemical emissions can negatively impact indoor air quality.

Because people spend more than 90% of their time indoors, indoor air quality is a very important issue. The level of air pollutants indoors are typically 2 to 5 times higher than those found outside. The U.S. EPA and American Lung Association recognized poor indoor air quality as "one of the greatest modern risks to human health." Also, according to The World Health Report 2002, air pollution is responsible for 2.7 percent of the global burden of disease.

Indoor air pollution can lead to serious health consequences such as asthma, headaches and respiratory diseases. More serious effects of indoor air pollution are neurological disease, reproductive and developmental defects, cardiovascular disease, and even cancer. Poor indoor air quality is especially important to children's health. This is because children breathe in more air than adults relative to their body size. Also, children's organs and important body systems are still developing and can be damaged by VOCs. Children have a higher heart rate which allows substances absorbed into the blood to permeate tissues faster. Because of these things, children are much more susceptible to negative health impacts. Currently, 73 million children under the age of 18 in the United States alone are at risk from indoor air pollution.

Jonti-Craft's achievement is very unique as more than 3,000 SKUs obtained GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification and did so without having to make adjustments to the material supply or processes.
