HaPe Safety Guarantee
HaPe CPSIA Status
Following is information regarding HaPe’s commitment to meet the current U.S. safety requirements. We will continue to update this document as we complete the steps mentioned below and if any requirements change.
Total Lead Content and Lead in Surface Coatings for Products Distributed in 2007, 2008, and 2009
Prior to the implementation of the CPSIA, we immediately implemented an internal limit of 90 PPM for surface coatings and 100 PPM for total lead content of substrates. All products distributed in 2007, 2008 and 2009 meet our requirements and exceed the U.S. regulations.
1. For coatings, we test every batch of paint or ink according to ASTM F963-07 heavy metal and total lead, which are all less that 90 PPM.
2. For substrates - plywood, solid wood, MDF and steel - we have not tested for total lead, but all such material in the product has to be tested against the soluble lead requirement according to EN71-3 and all the soluble lead values are less than the test apparatus limit (less than 2.5PPM). So, we are confident that the total lead for such substrates is less than 100PPM.
Phthalates
For phthalates, which material has to be tested has not been defined in the CPSIA. We understand that it is similar to 2005/84/EC which went into effect on Jan.16, 2007. For us, we control and test all materials like plastic and paint before we use them in any products.
Certificates of Conformity
For Certificates of Conformity, we are currently designing a reporting system and anticipate being operational within the next week. In the near term we will be including a Certificate of Compliance with every shipment of goods delivered to HaPe. These will be available to HaPe retailers.
Testing Certificates on file
The majority of our products currently have Third Party Testing Certificates. In a review of our line we uncovered that some products were only tested against ASTM F963, which does not include heavy metal and total lead testing. Since we have strict control over the incoming chemicals and test every batch of paint and ink we will
1. upload the appropriate relative paint and ink reports to box.net.
2. If such report is not acceptable by CPSIA, we will test according to CPSIA (test the total lead and heavy metal on products).
